Pamela was born in Port Alberni and likes to say she came to this church before she was born as her mother was a parishioner here. While growing up in Port Alberni Pamela was baptized, confirmed and married and regularly attended this church with her family. Music has always been a part of her life and Pamela was always involved in choirs in the church and the community. In her teens, Pamela was Girls Auxiliary (GA) ring of honour recipient and taught Sunday School.
In 1968, Pamela moved to Alberta for work and spent more than 20 years as a member of All Saints’ Cathedral Parish and Choir. It was in Alberta that she met and married her husband, David.
Upon retirement from a career in Management and Information Technology, Pamela and David returned to her home town and Trinity, her home Parish. Since her return, Pamela has been on various church councils and committees and sings in both the church choir and the local choir, Timbre! While always a person of faith and a strong believer in prayer, in 2023 Pamela was called to enrol in the Lay Leadership Course and is blessed to serve as a Lay Minister in the Parish now.
Julie is the daughter of a military man as well as the spouse of one. As a result, she has lived in several provinces as well as the Yukon and Germany. When these travels came to an end, Julie and her husband Bob chose Port Alberni as their forever home. Upon arrival and settling into their home, a church was next on the agenda. With a background of different faith traditions, a church that spoke and practiced the love of God for each of us was important. After trying a couple, Julie and Bob came to Trinity. The warm welcome they received convinced them to come back. The message of welcome to all people spoke to her heart. She quickly felt at home and was soon involved in many aspects of church life. Many of the improvements to the physical space were spearheaded by Julie. Julie’s favorite ministry is fabric art and when you visit, you will see several examples.
Geerry came to Canada with her family from the Netherlands in 1955. They settled in Fergus, a small town in Southern Ontario. They lived across from the United Church there so her parents decided to worship there. Geerry attended Sunday School there and later joined the choir and many other activities. In grade 13 Geerry's family relocated to Guelph so her dad could work in the art department at the local university. Geerry attended Hamilton Teacher's College and went on to teach in various places, eventually specializing in music, both vocal and instrumental.
In 1978 Geerry's family moved to B.C. She taught at Okanagan College from 1981 until her retirement in 2003, teaching adults with special needs, developmental challenges, physical barriers, and more. For many years Geerry was the only one in this department until another joined her team focussing more on preparing students for work.
In 2013 Geerry and her husband Lyle relocated to Port Alberni. Since coming here, Geerry has enjoyed music, singing in church, playing in a small orchestra, and singing in community choirs. Geerry has also been a volunteer at many non profits, always giving back to her community with her time.
Geerry's church life has never been about denominations. She has attended United Church, Presbyterian church, Catholic, Pentecostal, and now the Anglican Lutheran. Each has had a great impact on Geerry's life and has widened her perspective on what God has for her life. She has felt God's guidance in every endeavour, and in every church community. Having been involved in so many leadership positions in church over the years, Geerry felt a real draw to the lay leadership opportunity at Trinity. She feels blessed to be chosen as a lay leader and is thankful to God for another place to worship.
